Change of plans guys. :0)

I am now finishing off a Double Major in Social Welfare and Sociology. After completing my General program, I would like to Apply at the Laurentian School of Social Work, for the B.S.W program.

I am almost sure I will have above a 70% avg, upon completing my double major, and have 2 years of Crisis Intervention (VCARS) Volunteering.

I guess I would like to know if anyone else has any ideas how I could undertake to help better my position to enter Laurentian School of Social Work. Thank you sincerely,

Wesley

Hello everyone my name is Rochelle.

I am in desperate need of help. I completed my BSW in America and an accredited College. It's a four year degree. After completing my studies I came to Korea to teach English for three years. I am originally from Canaada and I am moving to Ontario in August.

First question is: Is my American BSW okay to work as a social worker or do I need to do something to transfer it?

Second because of my minimal experience in Social Work will it be difficult for me to find a job quickly?

Where is the best place to begin when I come back to Ontario?

and does anyone have any contacts where I can possibly give my resume out?

Rochelle, please respond ASAP

You should be fine with the US degree. I would first go to the CASW site which may (or may not) be able to confirm that. Their address is:

www.casw-acts.ca

Then go to the Ontario association's website (which I don't have because I live in Alberta)but it will be available on the CASW site.

Both Ontario and CASW probably have job listings. I would also check charity village (at charityvillage.com) and workopolis (workopolis.com).

Good luck :-)

Hi Rochelle

I would suggest that you contact the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW)
http://www.oasw.org/ENG/HOMEENG.HTM

As for jobs these are 2 national job sites:
HRDC Job Bank: http://jb-ge.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/Intro_en.asp
Several newspapers online: http://working.canada.com/

Thanks so much guys,

Now my desire is to work in the Toronto area. I am currently in Korea, how possible would it be for an agency to be willing to conduct a telephone interview? Do you guys also know of any contacts personally in which I can send my resume to in Toronto? Do you know how good the opportunities are for a social worker to get hired in the Toronto or surrounding area?

Rochelle

Sorry, no I have no contacts as I live quite far from Toronto and Ontario. I would not be surprised if the agency was willing to do a telephone interview for the initial one. How soon are you coming back to Canada?

Thanks RG, for the additional websites. It was my first day back from holidays and my brain hadn't quite caught up. :-)

Rochelle,

Hi again. I am out west so I don't have any direct connections in Ontario.

Here is another link I looked up for jobs with the Ontario Government: http://www.gojobs.gov.on.ca/mbs/gojobs/gojobs.nsf

I am sure the OASW probably has some other job boards and resources.

Good luck!

RG
