Hi everyone!
I'm a recent Social Work graduate from the University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia). I'm coming to the States and Canada in March to begin a project I've been working on. Over the next few years I'll be traveling to the States, Canada, the UK, Europe and parts of Asia, to meet with practitioners and students, to share their practice stories, with a particular emphasis on Social Worker self-care (and film the experience!). The idea of this project is that by sharing our stories of practice, we can celebrate the work we do, inspire each other, generate new ideas, and foster better self-care practices.
I had this idea back in May 2001, and since then have been overwhelmed by the support I have received from individual practitioners and students, as well as Colleges and professional associations all of whom are wanting to be involved.
I will begin the trip with a workshop presentation on self-care at the Mississippi Chapter of the NASW AGM at the end of March...I'll then make my way around the country until August, before heading off to the UK.
I want to speak with as many practitioners and students as possible, so if you're interested in being involved, I would love to hear from you! (I'm willing to go anywhere I'm welcome - so all of you living/working in rural areas, please don't hesitate to contact me!)
best wishes,
Amanda
Hello everyone. I am new to this cite and consider it very informative. I am a third year, undergraduate student at a state college in MA. My major is Human Services and I transferred into this major a year ago. I like the fact that most of my core courses have practicums so that I can hands on experience. I aspire to become a social wroker specializing in the area of adoption and foster care. I'm applying early to several agencies for internships over the summer. I do not have much related experience because I am still new to this field. I am worried about not having enough experience before I graduate. I know I will have more experience from completing my field work during my senior year but I wonder if that will be enough to get a job related to my field speciality. I would prefer to work at an adoption/foster care agency for a period of time before I start graduate school. I would appreciate any suggestions or advice about my concerns.
I really really really need an international
social work student or practitioner to correspond with me through e-mail about a social issue in their country for a uni assignment, please chat to me.
