The University of Texas college in my town offers an Associates Degree in Social Work but I am finding that the people who graduate from this program cannot find work. Have any of you heard of getting work in this field with an Associates degree only?
I have never seen a position for someone with an associates in social work. Every position I have ever seen required at least a BSW, and most want the MSW. The associates would qualify someone to work in public assistance (food stamps and medical cards) in most states since they only require 54 hours of college. Hope this helps!
I'm wondering about the same thing. I'm having my associates fully paid for by the state
but hoping to find work somewhere afterward. I live in MI.
Good Luck to all of us who are getting their associates

Hi all, I would have to agree with Andrea on this one. I have never seen a position for someonw with an associates. The question I have is are you licenced whith an assiciates degree in Socail Work or is it a Certificate? I don't really know how that works but my guess is it would be easier for you to find a job with a BSW. I hope you have some luck finding a job!
Hi everyone! I have an. A.A.S. in Counseling & Human Services, which may be like the Associates in Social Work. I have no accreditation or certificate; just my diploma. I could not find interesting or desirable employment with that degree. I was qualified to work as a "Mental Health Technician" at local mental health facilities but almost anyone with a high school diploma and some experience was qualified for those jobs.
I'm now a BSW major and I pray that I'll find a decent job once I graduate!
