I am a proud graduate of the U of Texas at Arlington (MSSW, 1989) and recommend it wholeheartedly. If you have specific questions or concerns, please let me know.

I have heard that Texas has a good program. Now help please!! I was wait listed at the School I really want to attend but have a firm offer for fall of 2000 to another MSW program. What have you heard about chances when you are on the alternate list? Thanks
Thankyou for responding about Texas. Jaybee, I would like to know if the classes were diffult for you. Were the faculty members available to talk outside of class? Were the classes small or large? Did the students find it easy to find work after graduation? Also how was the atmosphere at the school in general? Any thoughts would be helpful.
Also to Anonymous I would not turn down the firm offer. You might be able to contact the school and ask how many people are on the waitlist and how many openings they expect may come up. Good luck.

Regarding UTA, I found classes overall to be challenging, but not difficult. I had to work. That what I was there to do. Faculty members, with only a few exceptions, were available to talk and help after class. Several were real mentors to me. All of my immediate peers found work very quickly after graduating, some in the DFW area, others in various regions of the US. The atmosphere overall was stimulating and very much oriented towards learning.
Great field education opportunities. I particularly liked the fact that there was no thesis. Instead there was an integrative seminar to demonstrate that the desired learning had taken place. We had to apply all of our coursework via a particular model to our field placement or another selected agency. It was a hard paper to write, but one that really helped me put it all together as far as what being a SWer is all about. It was truly an integrative experience.
Good luck in your graduate studies wherever you may choose to go.
Jaybee
