I am a third year social work student. I am thinking of doing my dissertation on 'stress in social work'. I am interested in how those who experience stress through their work feel that the systems in which they work support them in dealing with it.
For example does supervision provide a forum for alleviating stress? Does it compound feelings of stress?
Are counselling services available to workers?
How do managers deal with workers who are stressed ?
Is there a stigma attatched to suffering from work related stress?
Are individual workers 'blamed' and seen as weak or unable to cope?
Does this attitude make workers reluctant to acknowledge their stress levels to others?
Are job oppertunities limited once you have been absent from work due to stress?
These are the kind of issues I am interested in. If anyone has any thoughts or feelings on the subject please let me know.
Thanks
Ruth.
