Bachelor's degree in social work

THE NEW SOCIAL WORKERŽ ONLINE Discussion Forum: Social Work Student Forum: Archive through November 25, 2005: Bachelor's degree in social work

Hi,

I would like to get some information regarding BSW and employment in Mental Health. I am a Social Work major at St. Catherine's in Minnesota. I am giving a presentation on the Mental Health field for my Intro to SW class.
The goal of the presentation is to help my fellow students appreciate the importance of the field and to assess their interest in working within in it in the future. I have substantial knowledge of the field as it relates to clinical social work, as well as experience on a para-professional level.

What I am looking for is input from social workers practicing in the field. I am especially interested in:

1. What role(s) a SW generalist with a BSW plays in working with clients in a Mental Health setting? (Employment opportunities, job title and/or duties)
2. What are some of the ethical dilemas you have faced?
3. Diversity of clients served.
4. Current issues of concern amongst professionals.
5. Micro and Macro goals.
6. Suggestions for a short video I could included.

You can e-mail me directly at the_brocster@yahoo.com or post replies here.

Thanking you in advance for your time and effort.
Broc
