Jennifer,
You may want to consider Social Work Administration if you don't want to deal with clients on a daily basis in a one-on -one basis. Administarion will give you access to the field and keep you abreast of what is going on , however you will be dealing with the agency in a different capacity like policies and procedures in making sure the clients are receiving the necessary services. Good Luck!!!!!
Robin (MSW student in Maryland working on 2nd Master degree)
I've applied to MSW programs at Columbia, Fordham, Hunter and NYU . I've attended all the open houses and have their "sell" stories but would like to know the opinions of current & former students. I know that NYU stresses the clinical but the other three schools say they are well rounded programs and that tells me nothing. All graduate programs - even the "balanced" ones tend to have a particular area of strength.... What are their true leanings? What are their particualr strenghts and weaknesses?
I also want to hear from anyone who has participated in the Hunter group interview process. What do they discuss / ask during it and how can one best prepare?
Upon receiving my MSW, I want to work in an agency or clinic as a mental health clinical social worker. Eventually, I do want to develop a part-time private practice.
I would love to go to Hunter (because of cost & location) but am afraid that their community based focus will preclude me from obtaining a great clinically supervised position. Should I bite the loan bullet & go to NYU? Does it matter where one gets their MSW? Help me!!!
