The Pornographer's Daughter is Battista-Frazee's memoir of growing up while her father distributed the iconic film Deep Throat in the 1970s. She candidly discusses the impact his indictment on federal obscenity charges had on her family, as well as her mother's depression and suicide attempt. Kristin, who was four years old at the time her father entered the pornography business, gradually learned more and more about what her father did for a living. When she went to graduate school to become a social worker, she learned how her family was similar in many ways to other families, and she became more curious about the details of her family history.
There is a great deal in this book for social workers to discuss--mental health and its treatment, stigma, pornography, First Amendment issues, family dynamics, what shapes who a person is, and more. It should prove to be an interesting chat.
