This event is part of the Master of Social Work (MSW) juvenile justice class Dr. John Gallagher is teaching during the spring 2023 semester at Morgan State University. It is a service-learning class where students learn about juvenile justice by doing an activity that gives back to the community. Accordingly, students will be presenters during this event, and 100% of the profits raised will be donated to The Children's Home in Catonsville, MD. Furthermore, Brooke Siem, author of May Cause Side Effects and Food Network Chopped champion, will share her lived experiences and mental health advocacy work related to the use of antidepressant medications with juveniles. Opening remarks, including time for Q & A , will be made by Dr. Jerome Adams, 20th Surgeon General of the United States. The presentations will address timely and important topics related to juvenile justice reform, including best practices in treating Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Conduct Disorder, potential unintended consequences related to the use of antidepressant medications for juveniles, and the role of juvenile drug courts in justice reform.
