Standing Up for Democracy: Studies of Democratic Renewal in Korea
to
Virtual New York, New York
Democracy faces mounting challenges across the globe. Deepening political polarization and growing inequality have weakened democratic norms and practices, undermining the foundations of democratic governance. Against this backdrop, South Korea’s vigorous history of citizen engagement for democracy offers useful insights. The complex political trajectory is a useful lens for considering democratic participation and accountability. By examining how ordinary citizens in South Korea have mobilized in response to political crisis, the world can gain a better understanding of how democratic cultures are contested and preserved. On May 5, distinguished experts will share insights on the prodemocacy movement in the Korean republic. This virtual event occurs from 7 to 8:30 PM (central U.S., UTC -6).
