Just Send Love to IT - An Original Song About Today's Society

Words by Dr. Julie (Jules) Gilliam, Music by Robert Hitz

Dr. Jules Gilliam, Sc.D., M.S., is Lead Instructional Technologist at the School of Social Work of the University of Maryland. She and Robert Hitz wrote this song in response to various stories in the news. She says:

The song was written about the tragedies that occur in the world and what one can do when you feel helpless. The Orlando shooting struck a huge chord for me about my own feelings of gender and sexuality. The particular events such as the Orlando shooting, Freddie Gray, the Stanford Rapist, and the child who was eaten by the alligator were some of the events expressed in the song with the words homophobia, racism, rapist, and alligator. When terrible things occur, you can "Just Send Love To IT," as well as build a community, change the law, or be love.
