Twin Towers - Artwork

by Dr. Nubian Sun, LCSW

About Twin Towers:

Twin Towers was created after the September 11th attacks. My response was delayed and similar to the day after a funeral when everyone has left and there is a haunting hush across the space. A complex combination of emotions overwhelmed me. Although I did not lose a familiar loved one during these attacks, my heart wept and my being became angered. Twin Towers is an abstract interpretation of what was happening to my body as a result of the day.  When bearing witness to this piece, one may observe confusion, pain, anger, sorrow, betrayal, fear, promise, and lastly, hope.

Artist Statement:

Constellations and natural root designs of our (abstract) environment create foundations for my artwork. My piece starts from the universe and then flows through my body, out my fingertips, therefore, making me its interpreter.

My art forms itself on its “called” surface. When the message is complete, it’s then when I stand back and understand it. Within my artwork, one may find prophetic messages, stories, connections, feelings, dreams, and beginnings.

As artist, I strive for divine understanding and openness as I continue to share this experience with others, encouraging them to listen to their messages and divine rite.
