Video: Find Your Voice, Connect Micro and Macro on Lobby Day

About the Video

Passion.  Inspiration. Voice.  This video was created in an effort to have social work students understand the power in connecting social work to the legislative process.  The video is aimed at tapping into a social workers' passion and inspiration to help others, and to further encourage participation in social action on the macro level.  Adelphi University participates with the New York Social Work Education Association to plan an annual Lobby Day event to support and advocate for relevant policy and legislation.  The event affords students the opportunity to experientially understand elements of the legislative process.  My goal in creating this video was not only to inspire participation in the Lobby Day event, but to have students understand that they have a voice on all levels of practice from the micro to the macro.

About the Videographer

My name is Michele Sevigny, and I am an advanced year student at Adelphi University.  Prior to becoming a student, I had several years working in the human services industry, including the foster care system, Head Start programs, and inner-city Community Based Organizations.  Since becoming a student, in the Fall of 2011, I have been actively involved in the Adelphi Social Action Committee at the Hudson Valley Center.  In the past two years, I have taken a leadership role, and it is my hope to enlighten as many students as possible, to the importance of understanding the threads that connect micro level of practice to the macro level of practice.
