Nationally recognized spoken word poet Kane Smego performed at the opening session of the 2014 National Association of Social Workers conference. This YouTube video, although taped at another event, is an example of one of the poems he performed at the conference. It is about paying allegiance to the X chromosome.

He is also Artistic Director of Sacrificial Poets, whose "dynamic workshops explore the power of stories and voice as tools for self-transformation, non-violent resistance, and community engagement."
