September is Self-Care Awareness Month. Also, this month marks the six-year anniversary of this Self-Care, A-Z blog. Since its inception, this blog has discussed a range of topics that inform and promote wholistic, expansive self-care. As articulated in its initial post, the blog is a forum for sharing successes, struggles, and strategies—with dozens of guest contributors.

In celebration of this anniversary and of September as Self-Care Awareness Month, we invite you to deepen awareness and activation of self-care. The calendar (below) provides a daily dose of self-care, with a link to a brief blog post to expand your understanding of self-care and how to integrate it as a lifestyle. Please, use this resource and share it with others!

The sampling of posts used in this calendar represents an extensive repository of resources to support self-care. While you’re on the blog site, check out other posts that may resonate with your self-care journey.

Erlene Grise-Owens, EdD, LCSW, MSW, MRE, is a Partner in The Wellness Group, ETC.  This LLC provides evaluation, training, and consultation for organizational wellness and practitioner well-being. Dr. Grise-Owens is lead editor of The A-to-Z Self-Care Handbook for Social Workers and Other Helping Professionals.  As a former faculty member and graduate program director, she and a small (but mighty!) group of colleagues implemented an initiative to promote self-care as part of the social work education curriculum. Previously, she served in clinical and administrative roles. She has experience with navigating toxicity and dysfunction, up-close and personal! Likewise, as an educator, she saw students enter the field and quickly burn out. As a dedicated social worker, she believes the well-being of practitioners is a matter of social justice and human rights. Thus, she is on a mission to promote self-care and wellness!
