My relentless pursuit to be of service to others has been a desire from a very young age. At the age of 14, I knew my desires were to help others, but I had no idea how that would happen or how I would even get there. I began to gain more insight as I shadowed a very close family member who interned during her MSW program at a teen pregnancy center. Her work with these teenage girls increased their hope and encouraged them to reach goals they never thought they could reach. From that moment, I knew that I wanted to be a part of helping change lives for the better.
As a licensed clinical social worker who serves in the United States Air Force, I am committed to serving my nation and the airmen who work hard to protect this nation daily. The social work code of ethics value of “service” aligns with the Air Force’s core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all that we do. The connection between myself and the members that I serve is rewarding, and the last 12 years of my life have been full of growth, leadership, learning, and amazing opportunities. In addition, the acts of connecting with community partners, providing understanding of the military lifestyle, and building bridges bring communities and organizations together with a common goal.
Social work is my life’s purpose. It is not just a job for me. It’s a way of life. I have made the great decision of dedicating my life to service, and it has been one of my best decisions that I have made. I am honored and proud to serve as a clinical social worker and a military officer supporting families and improving the quality of life for those that I serve.
